Back in the day

Skin texture refers to the surface condition of our skin. Ideally, we'd like our skin to be soft and smooth. Realistically, skin is naturally uneven due to the build-up of dead skin cells. Environmental factors can contribute to uneven skin as well as aging and scarring.

As an inner-city kid growing up in the 80's I was always outside. My day would start with watching cartoons until my friends would trickle outside around noon and being outside until the street lights came on. My friends and I would be so occupied with all things outside until sundown, the damage we were causing our skin was not relevant. We didn't worry about the sun's effect on our skin or the scraps we would receive falling on the pavement. We were just carefree and each scar was an exciting tale of bravery for later days. My parents would apply vaseline and peroxide to all my boo-boos.

Skincare was a ritual of our grandmothers. Perched in front of the vanity mirror cleansing and moisturizing their face and necks. I loved watching them getting ready for the night, the smell of Coconut oil and Coco Butter. This ritual was intentional and beautiful to watch and more importantly set the fountain for my self-care process.

There's a difference between a skincare routine and a ritual. A ritual involves intention, whereas a routine lacks that important, defining characteristic. They may involve the same concept of cleansing your face, applying toner, and moisturizing every night before bed. Turning this into a ritual involves recognizing, and celebrating in some way, that what you’re doing is a form of self-care. That mindful intention behind what you’re applying, rinsing, and massaging is at the heart of a skincare ritual. Skincare routine can be robotic without taking the time to see how your skin feels or look. Become more intentional, be mindful, and begin considering how the product feels on your skin, how your skin is responding, why your skin is feeling a certain way, and how great your skin looks.

Improve your skin texture by incorporating our exfoliating cleanser into your ritual. Our salt body scrub gently rubs away the day's dead skin cells and dirt. The benefit of a salt scrub is that it not only helps to exfoliate dry skin (leading to smoother, softer, and healthier skin) but also encourages detoxification. Our exfoliating salt scrub provides the luxury of moisturizing coconut oil to replenish the outer layers of your skin. This is why we say this is a Bath 2 Love.
